Behind the Pima Air & Space Museum lies a historic USAF aircraft. On August 25, 1968, Major Hunter F. Hackney flew this damaged Caribou over the Duc Lap Special Forces camp in Vietnam, delivering ammunition under heavy fire. Despite sustaining severe damage, he returned to resupply the defenders, ensuring their survival. For his bravery, Hackney received the Air Force Cross and the RVN Gallantry Cross with Silver Star. Another Caribou at the National Museum of the US Air Force is painted like this one, but this is the original.

The stunning Howard 500, an executive transport built in the early 1960s, departs the Fort Worth Alliance Airport. The aircraft had exceptional performance for the time, able to cruise at 300 knots and 21,000 feet. Sadly, this is another story of the right aircraft at the wrong time. By the early 60s, the executive market was already being taken over by turboprop aircraft such as the Gulfstream 1, and the Howard struggled to compete on the market. In the end, only 17 of these stunning aircraft were built.

EAGLE01 shatters the still morning air to go up against two TacAir F-5 Tigers. This superb livery honors the namesake of Kingsley ANGB, 2nd Lt David R Kingsley. Kingsley, an Oregon-native, served as a B-17 bombardier in WWII. On June 23, 1944, his B-17 was damaged during a raid on the Ploesti oil fields. The pilot gave the bailout order but unfortunately one of the crewmembers parachutes was damaged. Kingsley elected to give his chute up and stay with the stricken B-17 and he was killed in action. This scheme was rolled out in 2019 to commemorate 75 years since his heroic actions over Romania.

During 1943 and 1944 this very AT-6 Texan was used to train WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) personnel at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas. The aircraft is nicknamed Nella, a reference to the WASP mascot Fifinella. Since 2017, multiple WASP veterans have flown in Nella and you can find their names signed inside the cargo compartment.
Here's a Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules out of Little Rock AFB, callsign CHEAT54, slowing down and kicking up plenty of dust on Dyess AFB's Landing Zone (LZ) 163/343 at sunset. You just have to love the rugged and dependable Herk!

The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (better known as SOFIA) arrives back to Palmdale just before sunrise after an overnight astronomy mission. This 747SP was operated by NASA and was used as an airborne observatory. During 10-hour, overnight flights, it observed celestial magnetic fields, star-forming regions, comets, nebulae, and the Galactic Center.
